Mr. Colorado

Friday when we went to the Tabasco Co. tour, we ran into a guy from Colorado. Just small talk- he was eating a Boudin (Cajun Sausage) and we asked how it was.  He said good, so we tried one.  Then off we went to St. Martinville to find our Beignets, about 30 miles away.  There was a jeep driving about 5 miles below the speed limit, in front of us with Colorado plates and we joked about it being the guy from Colorado we just met.  Well, after our Beignet stop, we walked around town and we met up with the guy from Colorado again on  the sidewalk. We all kind of chuckled, and told each other about where we have been in the area. And off we went again.  Saturday we headed to the annual "Giant Omelet Celebration"  in Abbeville.  As we were about ready to leave, here comes Mr. Colorado just arriving. So, we chatted again. He is on a 3week vacation, by himself, tent camping along the way.  Just seeing all of the sights. We just thought it was strange that we've bumped into him 3 different times.  It's a small world.
Great Omelet Celebration

Painted Flamingos!
We missed the making of the Giant Omelet , they did that on Sunday morning.  But we had fun, Saturday listening to the Cajun bands, walking through the craft area and trying different foods.  First we tried the Eggplant Volcano. It was 3 batter fried slices of eggplant, about 6 fried shrimp, topped with a red and cream sauce. Very tasty. Then we tried a shrimp and crab pistolette. Fried French bread with creamed shrimp and crab in the middle. And finally a shrimp pie. It was like a chicken pot pie with out the top crust. That was our least favorite. They had some nice looking desserts, but we decided we had done enough damage to our arteries and decided to go do a little geocaching.
Abbeville, LA

Can you see the geocache?
We found 5 out of the 6 geocaches I had picked. Not too bad!!  This one is a small pill bottle like container taped up in camouflage. Have you found it yet? It was in the crook of the tree above my head.
Above ground Cemetery
Another interesting thing down here in the south, where we are at sea level, is the cemeteries.  Not only are they above ground, you see them about anywhere.  There might be a small one, about 12 tombs in between two houses or just by a field.  Just a little different than what I'm use too.  That's what so fun about traveling, there's just so many things out here to see.

Beignets!

Yesterday we went to Avery Island, to the Tabasco Company to see how their Hot Sauce is made. It was very interesting  and we had samples at the end. The samples were of their expanding products, like jalapeno ice cream, sweet and spicy ice cream, jellies, sauces and salsas.  This is the only place in the world that bottles Tabasco!

YUM
Then for lunch we went to St. Martinville to a little cafe, mainly for their hot beignets, but we thought we'd better eat something substantial also. I had crawfish etouffee and Vel had red beans and rice with sausage. Both were very good! And then of course beignets for dessert!   I also hate to mention that we found a bakery and bought 2 creme puffs, can you say pig out!

The Bayou Teche runs through this area.

Spanish Moss hanging from a Large Oak tree.

We walked around town, before we went back to check on the "furry kids".  And then we headed to downtown New Iberia, to take a tour of the Shadow of the Teche. It is an old Mansion, built for a wealthy sugar planter in 1834.  4 generations lived there until 1958 and then it became a National Trust Historic site. One thing that surprise us, is all of the fields of cane sugar down here.  We see new growth, to fields that are being harvested. They are in the middle of harvest season now, we were told.

We're having a great time experiencing the area, we'll have to see what we can find today!-Later -M

Slow internet

We are in the middle of Louisiana and our Internet is very slow. So, I don't think I'll post any pictures, as it would take for ever to download them.  We knew that rain was coming so, we are staying put for a couple of days.  We gave the dogs a bath, did a few loads of laundry and did a little grocery shopping.  Today we drove to a Cotton Gin tour and  through downtown Natchez, MS.  We stopped for lunch, Vel had tamales and I had a Ham and Cheese Poor-boy with coleslaw and icy hot pickles. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? It was pretty tasty!  It came wrapped in the funny papers! How unique!  I love to try different foods. It is suppose to quit raining tomorrow, so we'll be on the road again!-Later-M
Before I forget, Tucker has a new game for us. He takes his favorite ball and if we don't throw it for him, he will push it under the couch and whine.  Then of course, we get tired of listening to him and we get down to get it for him. He gets the attention he wants and of course we throw it for him.  He is a smart dog! What a character!

Eiffel Tower??

Who would of thought that we would see the Eiffel Tower.  Only in Paris, TX!  I stopped in the office of the Mom and Pop RV park we were staying in to ask about the closest grocery store.  The owner gave me directions to a Dollar General and a Wally World, she also said that we have to go see the Eiffel tower with the Big Red Hat on top. So, we did.  Interesting!  We drove by an outdoor mall with tons of people there.  Then we realized it was Halloween Eve and everybody was out Trick or Treating!  Time to go Home!!

On to Shreveport, LA!  We went to the Riverfront area's Visitor Center and was told most of the activity is across the river in Bossier City. After we walked around the park area where the water, tulips and birdhouse are, we headed over to the other side.

Multi room birdhouse, I know someone who would like to have this in their backyard!

We pulled into the busy parking lot (Halloween night and trick or treaters again) and walked around a little. They have a very nice shopping/restaurant area.  We headed to Joe's Crab Shack and had supper.
If you noticed, there is a casino behind the tulips, in fact there are several casinos. But we didn't even go to one of them! Vel want's to save her pennies for later!-M
